Tortoise and the Hare Illustration

Client: Student project

Challenge: In Illustrator, recreate a scene from a classic fairy tale.

Description: For this project, I illustrated the final scene of Tortoise and the Hare when Tortoise wins the race.

My personal goals were high contrast, dynamic composition, and incorporation of texture in a vector environment. I achieved all of these respectively by working on a grayscale base and making Tortoise and Hare a higher saturation than the background, using the type and landscape to lead the eye down the path, and adding plenty of small marks to convey the different textures.
